There is no, repeat no justification for the close to 50,000 deaths that have occurred in Iraq since our occupation. The attempt to justify Saddams actions as terrorist links are extremely tenuous at best.

The only facts I know of that are irrefutable are those that point to some in the administration having an obsession with Iraq. This dates back to the neocons when they started their ascent to power during the Reagan administration. Their wishes were kept at bay during the Reagan and Bush sr. yrs. I don't know if it's because of Cheney, but they now have top officials who will listen to them.

I heard an interview with Wes Clark this week where he said how shocked he was when he had a conversion with Wolfowitz shortly after he retired from the military. Wolfowitz said that he saw current times as an opportunity to carry forward the neocon philosophy. With the problems in the former Soviet Union he didn't see any foreign power that could stop the USA from shoving "democracy" down others throats.

This government we have is very, very scary in what they are doing.

>To my knowledge, no one has ever established that Iraq/Hussein was directly involved with the events of 9/11.

>But there is little question that Hussein bankrolled bin Laden in the late 1990's, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

>The initial conflicts between the two paled in comparison to their mutual hatred of the U.S. Even if no one can prove that Hussein was actively involved with 9/11, he provided tremendous aid to bin Landen for years. (And keep in mind that Hussein was also offering 20-30K a pop, for suicide bombing activities.)
