Hi Rick

Thanks for your comments regarding security.

I am use to javascript because I use it with my web-connect projects but I am always interested to see if there are better alternatives. You are correct when you said the hard part is the HTML DOM. At least that is my experience.

This came up as I was researching methods for Rich Internet Applications and trying to decide between a browser based product or something like .Net Smart Client with OneClick install.

>Well, a) somebody has to build the ActiveScript host and b) it's a third party installation that most organizations are unlikely to want to go through as you can open some serious security issues with a scripting language addition to your system.

>Scripting is one of the weakest points in terms of security in Windows and having a third party solution in that space would be very scary IMHO. So I don't think this is a good idea from both a technical and logistical perspective.

>FWIW, I think getting used to JavaScript now is as important as ever with AJAX taking off and a lot of new thought being given to the browser model in general. My guess is that over the next year or so we'll see lots of improvements in this space where there hasn't been any innovation in a long time.

>No doubt JavaScript is quirky, but the real hard part about client side programming is the HTML DOM and CSS implementations that are screwy in various browser implementations. The browser incompatibilities is really what makes client side code difficult.

>No language wrapper is going to do away with that, short of a client side framework of some sort (like Prototype or the ATLAS client library).
>
>JavaScript itself is just another language to learn and one that is actually relatively well suited for client side programming...

>>I was viewing some information at www.xharbor.com about their xbscript.dll which allows you to write script code in web pages using the xharbor language. So if people dislike using Javascript why not build a VFP scripting dll that would allow VFP code to be used in web pages and processed on the client using a VFPScript DLL?
