If it's happening during the app run then I'd most likely suspect a malformed loop that is inserting into a cursor, or a SQL SELECT that is a cartesian product.

After the app dies you should be able to look at the tmp file with hexedit.app to see what sort of data is in the file which will help you narrow down the code that is creating the cursor.
