thanks Jon, it seems pretty obvious to me now that I'm approaching this totally the wrong way, these UC's are not a clone of VFP's container, for now (deadlines...) I've just plonked a tabcontrol on the form, added the controls and away we go, will have a think and let you know what I come up with when I have more time
