It seems to behave like there's a "browse nowait" instead of plain browse.

I've had cases of a select (workarea) command not working in various scenarios in Fox 2.0 to about 6, which is a random bug happening out of the blue and vanishing back into the same blue as soon as you change the code somewhat. Usually adding a line or reordering a few lines somewhere around the location where it happens would make it vanish. Maybe just try to add a Wait Clear or some other no-op between closing the cursor and selecting your alias.
