>>>Oh of course, yes! I remember remarking on it when I was in Ontario, and the fact that their provintial flag still is just the Union Flag (I think). Canada is such a confusing collection of provinces :-)
>>
>>Looking at the provinical flags with new eyes:
>>
>>Alberta: has the english flag as a portion
>>BC: top half is in the union jack
>>Manitoba: red ensign
>>New Brunswick: English heraldic lion
>>Newfoundland: references to the union jack
>>Nova Scotia: you guess it, references to the Scottish flag
>>Ontario: red ensign
>>PEI: English heraldic lion
>>Quebec: fleur-de-lis, a symbol from France
>>Saskatchewan: English heraldic lion

>Mind you, when travelling from Ont. to PEI, when passing through New Brunswick I noticed more of the French tricoleur than any other flag, and a lot of them to boot, outside many houses. What's all that about? A province so close to the very "British" sounding PEI, Nova Scotia. Mind you, I suppose Cape Breton is not that far from there.
There are tons of French-Canadians in the maritime provinces.
