Maybe, N-Tier doesn't mean you arn't doing local data manipulation, Just that when you are retrieving initial data done through a seperate data object. I use an N-Tier design that could be used (with a little tweaking) with several back ends, but I still do boatloads of local data manipulation.
BTW, are you planning a trip to the states for a conference any time soon?
