Here we have the - watchamacallit... some call it fun - right now, 23.June. It is called "San Juan" (Saint John), and is supposed to be a tradition, for celebrating the "coldest day of the year".
See my pictures from 2003 - every year, the visibility is severely impaired by large amounts of smoke - in recent years, mostly from fireworks.
http://www.geocities.com/hilmarz/sanjuan/sanjuan.htmApart from fireworks, and bonfires, which have diminished in recent years, the tradition also includes barbecues. No major smoke problem here; I just mention it for completeness sake.
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
