>Unfortunately, I'm putting that down to general ignorance of the public. They were willing to put blind trust into their gov't. Never believing that the govt of the USA would pursue a path of launching a war using fabricated evidence, attempting to subvert the laws of the gov't, etc.

>I always thought when I read stories of how dictatorships were formed, that those types of things could never, ever happen here. Not I'm not so sure.

>By the way, I firmly believe the war in Iraq was stupid on several fronts. Not the least of which is that we were setting out to accomplish something in Afghanistan that we never did because resources were diverted. We now have 2 big quagmires now.

Make it four! Iran and North Korea have to be added to the list. By investing our efforts in Iraq, we could well loose all four.

Look at what happened to democracy in Vietnam.

>>Isn't it funny how George W. (admittedly, a flawed president) has so many people against him and his Iraqi war efforts in the polls - and yet slightly more than half the country told the liberals (twice, in '00 and '04) that they'd rather have George W. than the Democratic "best hope"? ;)
