Texas allows two fireworks sales periods, July 4th and New Years Day (rainfall depending). Fortunately I live in a part of town where they're for sale. Most of incorporated Houston has a permanent ban.
Back in my college days a bunch of us scammed all-access passes to the Willie Nelson 4th of July Picnic in Austin. I was behind the stage near the mortars as they launched the fireworks - it was awesome. All I could think of was "I gotta get me some of THOSE!"
