If speed is primary concern and you are calling thousands of times and you have VC++ the function would probably be an order of magnitude faster in C++.

The Fox version was fast enough for me, note the comment in the code, if you have the FUNCTION statement in there, like most good documenting coders would write, it slows down FoxPro horribly.
