The exercise every Fox beginner was undertaking (at least those aspiring beginners that asked me for advice) was to write a little app to balance their checkbooks. One form, one report, a menu, and then add a side lookup table with, say, vendors, transaction types etc etc... it can grow as the programmer learns new stuff, yet it's quite satisfying their need to have something that works right away.
