Hi Rakesh,

Starting with "The Latest The Better"

Opting for the latest (.NET) would of course provide new dimension to your existing business and possibly get more new projects.

But i would recommend VFP9 as solution to your existing problem.
Your client would not be paying for the time and money you gonna invest on .NET learning and development, they just need their software working at the least cost ( considering Indian Scenario ). You should not be surprised and amazed if the same client says that DOS software was better than your .NET developed software.

Buying any existing .NET framework would surely give you a lead but would put you in constraint of the framework and you would never be able to explore the potential of what .NET can do for you. With the current situation it would be difficult for your company to decide which framework is better or compare frameworks.

To Conclude,
A very few selected people of your organization could explore .NET with ease of time and pace. VFP9 would take a considerably small amount of time to learn and get you moving. At any given point you would find VFP project getting completed faster with the situation you are in.

>Our's is a general purpose Accouting software with about 400 users ( copies ). We are not planning a major change to database structure. It's used by Small enterprises with max 15 users in multi-user mode ( Dbf backend ). We don't give the source code. Customer is not bothered about technology used ( VFP or .net )

>Advantages of using VFP
> Code re-use ( say 30 % - year-end/reports code )
> Reports - About 450, DOS reports that print to DM Printer
> Familiarity with Language

>Disavantages of using VFP
> Lack of trained developers
> Technology obselence ( assumption ) - Like 64 bit, Unicode support.

>Advantages of .Net
> Easy availilibity of trained developers
> Latest technology ( Perception of investors, developers )
>
>Disavantages of .Net
> Local cursor processing
> C# - Learing curve & time taken to relases the product ( 1st version )
