Somehow your reply got me to the solution. I'm running on Win98SE and none of the projects increments the version

I just switched to my second test machine - which is Win XP. The exe there (whcih was built on the 98SE machine) shows no version when I click on properties - there is not even a version tab. However if I rebuild it on XP, the version increments and the new EXE has a version number.

That's too bad since I now need to modify the install and it has to know which of 30 possibly different versions any client has installed in order to decide what funtions to run during install.

I guess I'll have to try and pick up the EXE file date and use that instead.
