What I find most confusing about this problem is the way that copying the whole spreadsheet (CTRL+A then CTRL+C) and then pasting into a new workbook appears to reproduce the problem... but selecting the cells manually and limiting the cells to those within the populated row/column range, then pasting to a new workbook, does not reproduce the problem.
If the problem lies in cell formatting I would expect the problem to recur in the second instance; as it doesn't I think the problem may well lie in the original sheet. Very confusing, maybe others here have come across this and narrowed down a cause?
