Huh? London getting rid of double-deckers? First I've heard of it. You're not confusing this with their getting rid of the old RouteMaster, rear-loader, 2-man buses are you? There are still all the new, front-loader, one-man buses.

They're retiring the RouteMaster for 2 reasons, AFAI can see: Saving on not having to employ a bus conductor, and the scourge of this century, H & S. Everybody loves the RouteMaster cos you can jump on and off them whenever the bus goes slow (hence the H & S issue), whereas the new ones you have to wait till the stop and the driver opens the doors.

BTW My mother's over in Toronto at the moment. So if you hear a short, chubby, loud woman, with a Scouse accent, talking to complete strangers on the street, say Hi for me :-)
