Yes he did. Mostly it depends on which company you are contracted by and what resources they have or they share resources with the military and/or other units there. We did a lot of video chatting. Due to his assignment, they had a relatively small group (the security detail) and they had their own systems and connectivity. They shared them with the gurkhas and other units sharing the area. Depending on where you are detailed will determine what facilities and equipment you have available, are issued, etc. There were satellite systems available but he took his own laptop and web camera and used their connections.
