There are places where ADO works better, specifically if you're dealing with UniCode data (not supported at all by ODBC) and when dealing with stored procedures and parameter passing.
But in most cases - especially if you are returning data back - ODBC is considerably faster than ADO to get data. If you can use ODBC for data access by all means should you use it!
