It is a functional program but it's a bit scary to maintain because it's rarely clear the implications of any one change you might make. For example, in this case I added one feature as a totally separate routine, encapsulated--or so I thought--within a form with a private data session. But still it appears to have broken something else!

You are right that the design is basically OK although at times it's pretty hard to see the actual structure. I've begun to think that the transition to 20th century data management, naming conventions and programming techniques might be doable although this experience has done nothing to build confidence.
