case case = case(2) maybe? That should confuse things a bit...

There are actually dozens of places that use WHERE case = something or FOR case = something or SET FILTER TO case = something. Case is not only the array name but also a field name for the PK so it's used frequently. However, my search didn't reveal anywhere case was used in an assignment statement.
