There is no way to do it without rewriting. When using INSERT BEFORE, VFP handles the rewriting of data. I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish, but it adds no value as INDEX and SQL SELECT can order the data for you, and do it more quickly than INSERT BEFORE.
