If you have already installed your Driver, 1. Check for compatibility of the driver with your MySQL server 2. Check whether you can connect to server by MySQL administrator, if everything go OK, I would try to use ODBC provided in Windows, then create a new connection using that ODBC connection.
Then you can use ODBC connection rather connection string
