>I actually learned quite a bit, but I'm still very slow at speaking the language. My vocabulary should be better too ... I'm always searching for the correct word to use.
When that happens to me I think of a posher way of saying the word in English, then pronounce that word as if it were French, et le plupart du temp j'ais raison.
e.g. Magic = Prestidigitation :-)
>I could also use a lot more practice with verb conjugation, although I've come quite a long way in the past month. All in all, it was a pretty effective way to learn French, in my opinion of course. Now I just need to practice more, because I think Gary's taking me to Nice again for my birthday in November!
Get yourself on a French camp-site and ask to be pitched near the French families. That way you're exposed to them froim the moment you exit the tent/van/trailer in the mornings. Staying in a hotel one is isolated from everyone else anyway.
Mind you, in Nice you'll need to learn a whole new French pronunciation, as they have a sort of franco-hispano-italian thing going on. e.g
Vouleez-vous manger avec moi? -> "voolee voo MANzhee avec moi?"
Praline - un franc le paquet -> "Praleen - an frank le packee"
Vous ne povez pas regarder le tele -> "Voo ne poovee pa regardee le tellee"
BTW, don't be expecting golden sands in Nice, like Cannes - it's all shingle beaches - bit of a disappointment :-)
