I just jumped in but is there a problem with: "What if the user typed the new value, then re-typed? The wrong new value would be still in the list... "

Because you can save all typed text by a letter then you can allways check the correct value in every control if you want.

F.ex. you can use next ones for a validation:

- onkey
- keypress !!
- valid
- lostfocus
