I did, and it seems to work although the behaviour is still a little strange. The report starts out with 2 progress bars. After the first one goes out with no effect, the second one runs to 100% and the preview appears. This leads me to believe the call to the report is firing before the SELECT query is finished, which would explain the original error.
Still looks like a bug to me.
