Those were sticky fonts of the times - the letters were on a transparent sheet, and could be transfered to paper by means of pressing the selected letter with a pencil or end of a comb or fingernail or whatever, in thick dense lines until every, ahem, pixel of it would transfer. Then the next letter... They looked really neat if you didn't move the sheet while transferring. I still have one of my elementary school diplomas where the teacher who wronged me in 6th grade tried to redeem himself later by doing it in Lettraset. The names on all other diplomas were written by hand.
