But as I see it, Sam, the "open society" is disappearing fast.
In an "open society" the steps taken INSIDE MY COUNTRY would be debated and agreed and citizens would know about them. The need for secrecy is waaaaaayyyy overblown but is used to advantage by those in power. You can be sure that it's a slippery slope of which they intend to take full advantage.
The more your Administration (and ours for all I know) goes on secretly watching the citizens the closer the Islamic Fundamentalists are to victory over freedom.
The more your Administration allows corporate greed to supercede decency values, the closer the Islamic Fundamentalists get to proving some of their points.

The people now in charge in the U.S. are known to decry the state of society today and want badly to set it back by 50-100 years while continuing to ensure the supremacy of the U.S. on the planet so that whatever the U.S. wants it can go and get for itself by using that power. Do you really want that to happen without having any say in the matter?
