yes it is. I've checked the reset at combo (and indeed everything that I can change I've checked). There must be something fundamental in this that I'm missing.
I appreciate the suggestions on doing it in stages with cursors, and rpt vars (they are a bit of a pain so far!).
I do do some pre-processing to get cursors - sort of a hybrid of the 2 approaches.
