One further cause is printer drivers. I've seen it on 3 machines in one installation. The first two were using local (not network) HP5 printers, and we ended up replacing the drivers with HP4 drivers. The third computer had a bad network cable.

Also, in addition to the McAfee problem mentioned above Symantec programs will occasionally cause the same error.
