I installed the "Security Update for Microsoft Visio 2002(KB917150)" today for my copy of Microsoft Visio for Enterprise Architects.

After restarting my computer, when I choose to View an XSD file in Visual Source Safe 6.0, it no longer opens the file in a new tab in my running instance of Visual Studio.NET. I can browse to the devenv.exe executable manually, but it opens the file in a new instance of VS.NET.

Previously, when I chose to view an XSD file, it defaulted to Visual Studio. VS.NET's companion XSX files still open in my running instance of VS.NET. I can't think of any other system change I have made since yesterday. I don't use Visio much, so I am not sure if it uses XSDs, how an XSD could pose a security threat to Visio, or why a Security Update to Visio would cause a problem for VSS and VS.NET.

I have looked in the registry for a key without any luck. The Knowledge Base article says that I can remove the update using the Add or Remove Programs Control Panel, but the panel says "This update cannot be removed." I couldn't find a preference to change in VS.NET or VSS. Under my Windows Explorer folder options, the XSD file type is still set to open with VS.NET.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Does anyone know how to revert VSS to it's old behavior or have any suggestions?
