You didn't answer both of Viv's questions.

This has all the earmarks of a virus scanner interfering with each read/write. Turn that sucker off, at least for VFP files.

The other possiblity is that you are using test data and the user is using production (i.e. larger) data. You might have found something in your code that could be done better.
