It looks like the office apps can be made to save the preview picture by changing the default template. That should work pretty well, with the exception of existing documents.

Have you worked with any products that create thumbs for existing documents, programatically? I found one that does PDF to TIFF nicely, but I haven't found one that handles Office documents that I can easily call from VFP.
