>Rather amazing how that works. Hilmar's comments confirmed to me that even thou he lives in a area that's strongly Christian in nature, folks there are not so worried about their "afterlife".

Well, for one, I think a distinction should be made about the area I live in, and my own personal beliefs. Specifically, I am not a Catholic - which is the majority belief over here in Bolivia (and more generally in South America, AFAIK).

As a Bahá'í, I do believe in an afterlife - but (as far as I could gather) this belief is about as different from the belief in the rapture, as (for example) the belief in the rapture is different to the belief in reincarnation, to take an example. Although each one of those beliefs is about some sort of continued existence after death.

For the record, the Bahá'í teachings state that after our physical death, our soul continues living - but this other life is so different from what we know here, as our life here is from the life of an unborn child.

As an aside, in the popular book "Life after Life", by Dr. Moody, the people interviewed about their death... well, now they call it "near-death experiences" - also state that what they experienced "on the other side" can not be explained in earthly terms. Or something to that effect.
Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
