I have no experience with RTF controls, but AFAIK you don't have to use general fields to use a RTF control? I am pretty sure that you can use a RTF control plus "normal" memo fields, or any text for that matter. If the text contains RTF codes, the rtf control will intepret the codes, and show the correct color, fonts or other attributes. If no rtf codes are contained within the text, it will show as plain text.
