Or they will be, and the research would be paid by taxpayers several times: through Medicare plan D (the non-compete clause), through various ways the parmaceuticals are protected from competition abroad (specially Canada), and through the price of the cure once it's obtained. It just won't belong to the people, it will belong to corporations.
