I have a client that has a FPD 2.6 app that needs to be moved to the Web. Currently, the app is a subscription app that runs on pcANYWHERE machines (currently 16 machines) that the users call into. The call-in users data access is 95% query only. The other 5% is for individual tracking lists that they create.
Specifically, my question is what would be the best vehicle to use: ASP w/ODBC, West-Wind, some other combination of new features in VFP 6.0, etc.
At least initially, the tables will remain in 2.6 format. We'll continue to use the current data entry program for awhile.
Primarily, the client logs-in (it is a subscription service) and runs various reports, performs various searches, and generally just pokes around the read only screens.
One large point of concern: The present system currently has *large* memo fields on which the user can perform text searching ("text" $ memofield{ugh}). The search currently can take a while (up to 90 secs). I'm afraid of potential bottlenecks here.
I've played around with an ASP server and it was easy enough. However, with things changing so fast, I'm not sure what the best route is. Any suggestions? TIA.
Later...
