>There have been many new ideas on how car doors open (think of the Merc. "Gull Wing" and these new Renaults with slide back doors, etc.). It all boils down to this question: "What is the problem for which this is a solution"? What's wrong, or impractical, with the old-fashioned swing-out doors that have served mankind for thousands of years? If you take the gull-wing design, for ex., I'd imgine that in a rain strom the whole of the interior would get soaked as you get in or out.

For most of those cars, you will see them as toy cars, thus only used on an occasional basis for car shows, for fun, etc. For your day to day basis use, those are not very well comfortable to use.

For me, on a Honda Prelude, the most appropriate type of adjustment to make was to use the lambo doors style. As this is not built in, they do not open exactly like a Diablo, for example. The Diablo is framed to support such a door so when you open it. They open vertically and it doesn't bother you to get in the car. For me, the door opens at about 85 degrees and to open it, you have to open the door as before as about 15 degrees and then you pull it up in the air. You don't have to pull it up in the air to get in or out of the car. In such case, you would squeeze in or out. But, for car shows and exhibitions, we bring them up.

As this is not built in, and because the door has to be opened to 15 degrees first before pulling it up, this represent a problem on the paint. Basically, as the door can move at 0 degree up to a certain angle, this would cause the paint to ship where the door is hitting on the frame. So, you have to be very careful. IAC, as careful as this could be, it will always happen because it's the just the way it is.

Yes, you would have guessed that my next project would be something a little bit different and probably closer to a Diablo style. That would be the only way I would install such door lambo kit again.
