There WAS a special case where seek gave false results in vfp6 but AFAIR this was fixed in vfp8. Could you check with vfp8 or 9 (even if the project has to stay in vfp6 for customer reason) if the problem can be seen there as well ?

YOu might also check if a go recno() instead of go top also releaves the problem.
