Oh, there's at least one alternative but they refuse to exercise it. They could start TALKING, through intermediaries at first, to Hezbollah, to Hamas, to Iran, etc.

To have wars and then talk is what is the unacceptable alternative while talking first is off the table.
Look at the Palestinians. They are beyond being on their knees in subjugation, to the point that their desperation had them feeling that electing Hamas was better for them than the status-quo. Just how much more denigrated d they have to get before Israel discovers that talking can be the basis for a solution?
