The Chiefs and Raiders changed head coaches. The Chargers changed quarterbacks. All this was done in an attempt to keep pace with the front-running Broncos. Our series of division-by-division training camp previews concludes with the AFC West, where Denver remains the team to beat. Full Story ... "
I shall be in KC on Thanksgiving night to watch my Broncos kick a little butt! Well, let's take stock here:
-The Raiders changed head coaches after a 4-12 season.
-The SD front office (which will never win any awards for being a well-run franchise) basically screwed Drew Brees, and went with a QB who throws floaters and will surely have a high INT count this coming season.
KC had to find a new head coach because Vermeil retired. Hardly the same deal.
When you consider KC's misfortunes last year (injuries to Trent Green, Priest Holmes, Willie Roaf, Patrick Surtain), it's amazing they were 9-3 in the AFC and gave Denver a serious challenge until the last 2 weeks of the season.
Yes, Denver is the "team to beat", because they are the defending division champs. It wouldn't surprise me if both teams go 11-5, but I really think KC will have the "edge" this year. At first I wasn't crazy about Herman Edwards, but I'm starting to believe he might be what KC needs. We shall see!
Really looking forward to Thanksgiving night, though I'll have to stay awake!
