Exactly. Contemporary fundamentalisms assume a purity of ideology that has no comparable place in history. For example, a current day 'Bible believing' fundamentalist cannot find a similarly toned ideology in any other centuries, particularly those preceeding the Council of Nicea. And just to ponder, 'bible' means library.
