Luis;

Everyone has a “skill set”, that is an ability to accomplish specific things based upon your knowledge and experience. Each time you create an application you will more than likely have to learn new skills. How do you learn those skills that you do not possess? You have to read, experiment, and ask questions.

Do you work alone or with others? That can change from job to job as well as project to project.

Understanding the requirements of a project is imperative. Also, you must learn how to control the “customer”, to reduce or eliminate “scope creep”. A user says something and expects more can also be a problem.

Define your skill set and break it down to basic concepts:

View data:
Insert Data:
Edit Data:
Delete Data:

You can add to this as required. How do you approach the above topics? There are perhaps ten different ways to address each topic, and you will be comfortable with perhaps one or two, which you will use most often.

I did a great deal of extermination on my own my creating applications that were useful to me. A simple address book, a program to help get a job (job search, resumes, cover letters, etc.), as well as a music program to find titles, composers, instruments and much more, were created to help learn how to use programming tools.

Remember to use “the right tool for the job”. There is no one programming language that does everything. However, if you specialize in the types of applications you will use you can limit the number of tools and learning curve that goes along with it.

Do you use a framework such as Visual MaxFrame Professional? That is not only a great tool to deliver robust applications in little time (as compared to writing everything yourself), but a good way to learn VFP.

I may have mentioned this to you earlier – my wife Katy (Enriqueta), is from Magdalena del Mar.

I hope that a few of my words have been of help to you. No one knows everything about programming but you can increase your knowledge if you want to. Programming can be a very painful experience! ¡Que Pena! :)
