well I didn't use it I just heard it exists - I don't use Netscape much these days

I think one of the main reason MS is giving away IE for free is to create a cirtical mass of uses that will make netscape (or any other browser for that matter) support ActiveX, anything else is a threat to the way MS is heading.
you can see the same thing with J++ - "if you can't beat them join them"
MS just have to have Java creating ActiveX controls instead of regular java applets
I guess we will all see what will happen :)
