do wasps and yellow jackets and hornets make the same contributions to nature that regular bees do?Hmm. try this. say "Bee. VFP. Bee. VFP." Say it a few times. That sort of hangs together, right? Compare to "Bee. dotNET. Bee. dotNET." No, that doesn't work.
Now try hornet. "Hornet. VFP. Hornet. VFP." No, that doesn't work. Now try "Hornet. dotNET. Hornet. dotNET." Yes, that hangs together like Bee and VFP.
So no, I would say that hornets do not make the same contribution to goodness and wellbeing that bees do.
{Sorry, couldn't resist! ;-) )
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
