>>>Be thankful you are not limited to watching the news in Greensboro, NC. The channel 12 newscast is ridiculous, and I do not allow my daughter to watch it. However, the newscasters in Raleigh, NC are fairly well-spoken. It amazes me that only 2 hours away by car the language deteriorates to such an extent. (The local news can be rather funny though!)

I like to see BBC, Deutsche Welle, and Telemundo to see other perspectives on the news. As for local news, well it has a bias, which is based upon a west coast point of view. Then we have a national news service that may be the voice of the administration until things go sour. If I go to the Central Valley of California, I am likely to hear news with a bias towards farmers and stifling heat.

From the BBC about hot weather or “How to build a story”, viewed July 26, 2006.

California is experiencing temperatures of 43 C, and 38 people have died from the heat.

Western Europe is also experiencing a heat wave.

France may experience temperatures as high as 40C.

Last year 15,000 people died in France from a heat wave.

All medical students and doctors have been asked to be on alert in case they are needed during the present heat wave.

All hospitals in France are on strike!
