I'm not sure I have a choice here. I recall I first create a temp text file, then use this file to convert to PDF, not directly from a text string. Lots of extra steps... I questioned today the validity of storing memo as PDF and got these answers:

1) We store memo as PDF because we're going to purge Stage tables ~ each six months and we don't want to keep them in our main tables to save space
2) We're using PDF because lots of other things are also stored as PDF...

So, I guess there are not much chances of speeding this particular piece of code...
