Did you consider setting up an NNTP server? This is an older protocol, but still ver appropriate for discussions.
There are many programs that work as clients for this, including Outlook Express. A freeware program specialized as an NNTP client is Forté Free Agent.
I don't know what options there are for the server side, but I think it is an option worth-while to investigate.
