The next large town from me is Puyallup (approx. 30-40 thousand people, Sumner less then 5,000).

But the startling statistics of Puyallup are the burglary, larceny, and vehicle theft reports, which rank Puyallup as #1 in Pierce County, beating out even Tacoma per capita. Puyallup only has about 1.5 police officers to take care of every one thousand residents, though, and that doesn't leave much room for the department to be proactive (the average in Pierce County is 2.2 police officers per 1000 people, based on a 2003 report).
