Trust me, I understood his point. And while they may not necessarily get hung in actuality - but they often do get hung out to dry in public/private opinion: as in "What was she doing there at that hour?", "What was she doing out dressed like that", "She should have known better".
And if it was a break-in...well, she must have somehow invited it or she must have wanted it because she didn't try hard enough to get away.
Now, if the girl/woman in question is killed during a rape, well...that might make it a little or a lot different, depending on the age. The younger the victim the more forgiving public sentiment seems to be - until she hits about 80.
