Hi Sam,
Have you recently changed the font/typestyle that you use in VFP? If that particular font/typestyle doesn't have a usable representation of the asterisk, that could cause a problem. Or, if the one you chose is somehow corrupted or missing from the Fonts folder.
Probably not the cause, but thought I'd bring it up anyway (g)...
